Acrylic, pen, pencil on Canvas

The Houston Police Department Southwest Division covers an area of great diversity. From social/economic differences to racial variation, the urban landscape, both natural and built, reflects this diversity.

This series of six paintings epitomizes this multiplicity and represents divergent points of view. From an intimate and personal scene of the Oaks of Nitida to a more universal experience of an event at NRG, the artwork aims to be descriptive and revealing, but more importantly, to help instill a sense of pride for the community.

Recognizable images form the basis of each composition. These images are pulled apart, deconstructed, layered, or overlaid with abstracted shapes and colors to create a sense of movement in time and space. Hopefully, the viewer will not only be able to easily identify and connect with the scenes because of personal experience, but will also be able to re-imagine the familiar scenes from new perspectives.

The six paintings are drawn from: 610 at Braes Bayou, Almeda, Hiram Clarke Transit Center, NRG, The Oaks of Nitida, Willow Waterhole
