Prince Varughese Thomas, born in 1969 in Kuwait with Indian heritage, moved to Houston in 1992 to attend the University of Houston and earn an MFA in 1996. Since then, he has become a professor of art at Lamar University, and his work has been included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and here. This is a photograph that measures over three feet high and over four feet wide. It is part of a series, a collection of works that share a theme, technique, or style, by Thomas titled “Liquid Sky” that focuses on reflections in water. This image seems to show a pool of water in a marsh or swamp as its surface is slightly covered in moss. Its reflection shows a forest of trees that seem to be rooted in the water, perhaps making them bald cypress or water tupelo trees due to their thinner trunks and commonness in Houston swamps. The picture was taken during dawn as the sky’s light rises. Thomas said: “Reflections in water, like the landscape, are constantly in flux, much like Houston is a vibrant and progressive city that constantly changes in a forward progression.”

Prince Varughese Thomas, nacido en 1969 en Kuwait y de ascendencia india, se mudó a Houston en 1992 para asistir a la Universidad de Houston y obtener una Maestría en Bellas Artes en 1996.
