Hillerbrand + Magsamen is a collaborative art team, made of husband and wife Stephan Hillerbrand and Mary Magsamen, who have worked together for over 20 years on videos, photography, installations and interdisciplinary performances. Together, they have participated in residency programs such as: Experimental Television Center in New York; Vermont Studio Center; Lawndale Art Center in Houston; and Santa Fe Art Institute. Here is one of their mixed media pieces, which is when an artwork is made with more than one medium or material, that combines video, sculpture, and photography. First, the artwork is a metal sculpture in the form of a lunar rover with wheels, lights, exhausts, radars, a license plate, a display case, and a screen. The satellite is made of a trash can lid, and the display case contains objects, such as commemorative plates, mission patches, boots, a small television, a painted keyboard, and more. The screen plays a short film of the Hillerbrand + Magsamen duo, including their two children Madeline and Emmett, as they create a rocket ship out of found objects, such as couches, duct-tape, boxes, pots, and more, that then launches them into space. The video includes footage taken from NASA.

Hillerbrand + Magsamen es un equipo artístico colaborativo, integrado por el matrimonio compuesto por Stephan Hillerbrand y Mary Magsamen, quienes han trabajado juntos durante más de 20 años en videos, fotografía, instalaciones, y arte de acción interdisciplinaria. Juntos, han participado en programas de residencia tales como: el Experimental Television Center en Nueva York; el Vermont Studio Center; el Lawndale Art Center en Houston; y el Santa Fe Art Institute. Aquí presentamos una de sus obras de técnica mixta, término que se aplica cuando una obra de arte se realiza utilizando más de un medio o material, la cual combina video, escultura, y fotografía. En primer lugar, la obra de arte es una escultura metálica con la forma de un vehículo lunar, equipada con ruedas, luces, tubos de escape, radares, una placa de matrícula, una vitrina, y una pantalla. El satélite está hecho a partir de la tapa de un cubo de basura, y la vitrina contiene diversos objetos, tales como platos conmemorativos, parches de misiones, botas, un pequeño televisor, un teclado pintado, y más. La pantalla reproduce un cortometraje del dúo Hillerbrand + Magsamen, en el que participan también sus dos hijos Madeline y Emmett, en el que construyen un cohete espacial a partir de objetos encontrados, tales como sofás, cinta adhesiva, cajas, ollas, entre otros, que, posteriormente, los lanza al espacio. El video incluye material de archivo de la NASA.
