Juan Seguin Bust

A bust is a type of sculpture that shows the torso of a notable person, is three-dimensional, and can be made of different materials. This bust of Juan Seguin is made of limestone, a sedimentary rock formed by millions of years of compression of loose sediments. Limestone has been used since ancient civilizations for sculptures due to its softness, making it easier to carve. However, Seguin’s bust features signs of wear with abrasions and loss. Maintaining Seguin’s bust requires upkeep and care. Who is Seguin? Juan Nepomuceno Seguín lived from October 27, 1806 – August 27, 1890 and was a notable military figure during the Texas Revolution. He fought in the Siege of Bexar, Battle of the Alamo, Battle of San Jacinto, amongst others, and accepted the formal surrender of the Mexican forces as a Republic of Texas representative. He would serve in many other roles throughout Texas history, such as a Texas Senator, mayor of San Antonio, a Justice of the Peace of Bexar County, and more. The town of Seguin, TX bears his name, where he is now buried. Though the sculpture bears the scars of time, Seguin keeps his head held high.

Juan Nepomuceno Seguín vivió del 27 de octubre de 1806 al 27 de agosto de 1890 y fue una figura militar notable durante la Revolución de Texas. Luchó en el asedio de Bexar, la batalla del Álamo, la batalla de San Jacinto, entre otras, y aceptó la rendición formal de las fuerzas mexicanas como representante de la República de Texas. Desempeñaría muchos otros roles a lo largo de la historia de Texas, como senador de Texas, alcalde de San Antonio, juez de paz del condado de Bexar y más. La ciudad de Seguin, TX lleva su nombre, donde ahora está enterrado. Aunque la escultura muestra las cicatrices del tiempo, Seguin mantiene la cabeza en alto.
