Elaine Bradford, born in Taft, TX in 1977, is a fiber artist whose work has been shown at Lawndale Art Center, Hyde Park Art Center, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, Centre Culturel Aragon in France, and more. Also, Bradford is a founding member of BOX13 Artspace and a former artist-in-residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Here is a mixed media sculpture, which is when an artwork is made with more than one medium or material, that measures one foot high, three feet wide, and five inches deep. It is made of a branch of wood, perhaps oak, covered in a crocheted sleeve. Note how the crocheted sleeve is custom to the branch, even covering the cluster of growth at its base. The sleeve, mainly light blue, has dark blue and yellow rings, meaning Bradford had to switch yarn colors on and loop the yarns seamlessly several times. Why would Bradford clothe a piece of wood?
