Memories Are Ticking By (2010)

Originally from Louisiana, jewelry artist Debbie Wetmore has lived in Houston most of her life. Prior to beginning her jewelry career, she studied architecture and commercial art. An avid collector of beadwork, jewelry, and artifacts, Wetmore creates complex artworks that combines these materials into a single piece. Here is an example of assemblage by Wetmore, which is a three-dimensional, artistic form that combines objects found by the artist. She seems to have taken a wooden ball and attached various pins to it that hold up different items. Most of them seem to be gears from watches and music boxes. Other items include bug-shaped pieces with enamel inserts from different sources. Across the wooden ball are written messages, such as “MUST BE PRESENT” and “MEMORIES DO KEEP YOU…” The title and artwork hint at the passage of time and how memories can be kept, missed, or forgotten.
