Libbie J. Masterson, born in Houston in 1969, is known for her diverse practices that include painting, photography, sculpture, set design, and large-scale installations. She received a Brown Foundation Fellowship, a residency at the Dora Maar House in Menerbes, France, and the Star of Design Award from the Design Center of Houston. Masterson’s artwork has been featured at the Contemporary Arts Museum, The Cole Art Center, Houston Center for Photography, and more. Here is one of her photographs as a chromogenic print measuring two feet high and three feet wide. It is part of a series, a collection of works that share a theme, style, or technique, titled “SKY” that were: “collected over several years while traveling around the United States. They all are related to the different skies and skylines we have during both the day and night.” This image features a dark, night sky with the bright moon in the top right corner. On the left is a silhouette of a tree. Note how the clouds reflect the moonlight, barely illuminating the tree. The title hints that this image was taken in Round Top, TX, a town north of Austin in central Texas.
