Fariba Abedin, born in Iran and moved to Houston in 1983, earned a Master of Science in education from Connecticut State University before studying painting and sculpture for the next three decades at Art League Houston and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. She has exhibited, lectured, and taught her geometric art practice at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, University of North Texas, Lawndale Art Center, and more. Here is one of her acrylic paintings on wood panels that measures nearly seven feet high and wide. It shows nine cubes stacked in a tile pattern with brighter colors at the top that become darker towards the bottom: yellow, orange, red, and black. The title hints that each set of three cubes painted within a hexagonal panel is a separate piece, perhaps making this a triptych. This could be considered a work of geometric abstraction, a form of abstract art based on the use of shapes. The title also indicates that Abedin has a series, a collection of works that share a theme, style, or technique, titled “Perception” that has reached over 90 installments. However, Abedin has over 200 paintings with the title.

Fariba Abedin, nacida en Irán y basada en Houston desde 1983, obtuvo una Maestría en Ciencias de la Educación en la Connecticut State University antes de dedicarse al estudio de la pintura y la escultura durante las tres décadas siguientes en la Art League Houston y en la Glassell School of Art del Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston. Ha expuesto, impartido conferencias, y enseñado su práctica artística geométrica en el Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, la University of North Texas, el Lawndale Art Center y otros lugares. Aquí se presenta una de sus pinturas acrílicas sobre paneles de madera, la cual mide casi siete pies de alto y de ancho. Muestra nueve cubos apilados en un patrón de mosaico, con colores más brillantes en la parte superior que se oscurecen hacia la inferior: amarillo, naranja, rojo, y negro. El título sugiere que cada conjunto de tres cubos, pintados dentro de un panel hexagonal, constituye una pieza independiente, lo que tal vez convierta a esta obra en un tríptico.
