Russ Connell, born in Houston in 1990, is a sculptor who works with steel, bronze, urethane, and more. His artworks are represented by Tierra Mar Gallery, Melissa Morgan Fine Art, Grace Renee Gallery, and Momentum Gallery. Here is one of his bronze sculptures mounted on a marble base that measures over two feet high, 14 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. It is in the form of a bust, which is a sculpture of a person’s upper torso, with a surreal element, which is when an artwork explores the creative potential of the unconscious mind and results in the combination of the illogical and rational. The title hints that this bust is a self-portrait by Connell, which is when an artist makes a representation of themselves, except that the portion of his head with his eyes and nose is shifted away from the rest of his skull. Though most of the bronze surface has a black patina, the surface of the bronze of the shifted portion is shiny and reflective, giving it a vulnerable and exposed appearance underneath the surface. Connell said: “My art is an exploration of form…”

Adopta la forma de un busto, una escultura del torso superior de una persona, e incorpora un elemento surrealista, caracterizado por explorar el potencial creativo de la mente inconsciente y dar como resultado una combinación de lo ilógico y lo racional. El título sugiere que este busto es un autorretrato de Connell, una representación que un artista hace de sí mismo, con la particularidad de que la sección de la cabeza que abarca los ojos y la nariz aparece desplazada con respecto al resto del cráneo.
