Spring Mountains I (2009)

Andrew Bellatti Green, born in 1988 in Arizona, is a sculptor, architect, and photographer whose artworks have been exhibited in Lawndale Art Center, Rockport Center for the Arts, Dougherty Arts Center, and more. He has been commissioned by the City of Austin, Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, and Greater Texas Foundation for his art. Here is one of his smaller sculptures that measures six inches high, one foot wide, and three inches deep. It is a mixed media sculpture, which is when an artwork is made with more than one medium or material, made of bronze and mahogany wood. The title hints that the bronze is in the shape of a mountain range; the bronze is set into a rounded mahogany base that allows the sculpture to rock back and forth. Specifically, the mountains are inspired by the west edge of the Las Vegas valley where Green was raised with his 10 brothers and sisters. Green said: “In a landscape with few obstructions, the mountains announce themselves as they catch the morning sun, draw out the evening sunset, and provide the backdrop for the city lights at night. They are a constant, steadfast reference for a city that is everchanging.”

Aquí se presenta una de sus esculturas de menor tamaño, que mide seis pulgadas de alto, un pie de ancho, y tres pulgadas de profundidad. Se trata de una escultura de técnica mixta, término que se aplica a las obras de arte realizadas con más de un medio o material, elaborada en bronce y madera de caoba. El título sugiere que la obra de bronce tiene la forma de una cordillera; el bronce está insertado en una base redondeada de caoba que permite que la escultura se balancee hacia adelante y hacia atrás. Específicamente, las montañas están inspiradas en el extremo occidental del valle de Las Vegas, donde Green creció junto a sus 10 hermanos. Green dijo: “En un paisaje con escasos obstáculos, las montañas se anuncian a sí mismas al captar el sol matutino, prolongar el atardecer, y servir de telón de fondo para las luces de la ciudad durante la noche.
