This bronze sculpture, measuring over seven feet tall, features a mother holding a baby and feeding a seagull while a child tugs at her dress. In addition, there are three more bronze seagull sculptures hanging from a ceiling as though they are flying mid-air. Designed by sculptor Fayna Ann Armstrong, the final piece was cast in 1981 by Stevens Art Foundry, located outside of San Antonio in Bulverde, TX and founded in 1974. Armstrong, born in Mesa, AZ in 1933, has sculptures features in Scotland, Venezuela, and all over the US, as well as in many Houston institutions, such as the Houston Zoo, M.D. Anderson, and the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, and others. Though she passed in March of 2019, Armstrong completed her last sculpture in January 2019 and is survived by three children. Note the detail on the bronze sculpture, such as the layers of clothing on skin, the hair textures, the feathers on the seagulls, and the fractures on the stone at the base. The sculpture focuses on the mother’s love, as being able to care for her two children while giving a seagull food.
