Marta Chilindron, born in Argentina in 1951, is a visual artist whose practice includes sculpture, installation, painting, and more. In the 1990s, Chilindron began experimenting with furniture forms, synthetic and industrial materials, and geometric forms. As well, she was inspired by the kinetic/light art and optical art movements in Latin America. Within Bush Intercontinental Airport’s International Terminal are a series of three large-scale artworks made with digital print on glass and a stainless-steel framework. Each of the artworks is a different color, specifically yellow, blue, and green, that are also transparent, filtering light and structures beyond the glass in a solid hue and warping their image. Chilindron said: “Bathed in colorful shadows, the public, as it circulates through the space, becomes in a sense – an element of the sculpture and a participant in its reality.” Their large size, the biggest being the green panel that measures 21 feet high and 35 feet wide, captures light and images that change with the sun’s light. Note how the largest panel, green, is a combination of yellow and blue, connecting the three pieces. The glass panels were a collaboration between Chilindron, Metalab Studio, Sicardi Ayers Bacino Gallery, a fabrication team, and the on-site installers Merge Studios.

Marta Chilindron, nacida en Argentina en 1951, es una artista visual cuya práctica abarca la escultura, la instalación, la pintura, y más. En la década de 1990, Chilindron comenzó a experimentar con formas de mobiliario, materiales sintéticos e industriales, y formas geométricas. Asimismo, se inspiró en los movimientos del arte cinético y lumínico, así como en el arte óptico, desarrollados en América Latina. En el interior de la Terminal Internacional del Aeropuerto Intercontinental Bush se encuentra una serie de tres obras de arte de gran escala, realizadas mediante impresión digital sobre vidrio y una estructura de acero inoxidable. Cada una de las obras presenta un color diferente, específicamente amarillo, azul, y verde. Al ser también transparentes, las obras filtran la luz y las estructuras situadas más allá del vidrio bajo un matiz sólido, distorsionando así su imagen. Chilindron dijo: “Bañado en sombras coloridas, el público, a medida que caminan por el espacio, se convierte, en cierto sentido, en un elemento de la escultura y en un participante de su realidad.” Su gran tamaño, siendo el mayor de ellos el panel verde, que mide 21 pies de alto por 35 pies de ancho, capta la luz y las imágenes, las cuales cambian al compás de la luz solar. Observe cómo el panel de mayor tamaño, el verde, constituye una combinación de amarillo y azul, conectando así las tres obras. Los paneles de vidrio fueron fruto de una colaboración entre Chilindron, Metalab Studio, la galería Sicardi Ayers Bacino, un equipo de fabricación, y los instaladores in situ Merge Studios.
