Hanging from the ceiling of Hobby Airport’s main lobby is a 22-foot-high, 28-foot-long, and 69-foot-deep sculpture made of steel and acrylic sheets. The acrylic sheets are in orange and blue and were thermo-formed over steel, which is when materials are heated until pliable and undergo line-bending or drape-forming processes. Together, the steel and sheets form a trail in the air, which for the artist, Luca Buvoli, represents a contrail generated by a human figure at the end moving through the air with open arms. Contrails are line-shaped clouds produced by aircraft engine exhaust. Buvoli, born in Italy in 1963, has been a Fulbright Fellow and received grants and awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, Creative Capital Foundation, and New York Foundation for the Arts.

Colgando del techo del vestíbulo principal del Aeropuerto Hobby se encuentra una escultura de 6,7 metros de alto, 8,5 metros de largo, y 21 metros de profundidad, hecha de acero y láminas acrílicas. Las láminas acrílicas, de color naranja y azul, fueron termoformadas sobre la estructura de acero, un proceso en el que los materiales se calientan hasta volverse maleables y se les da forma mediante doblado o moldeo. En conjunto, el acero y las láminas forman una estela en el aire que, para el artista Luca Buvoli, representa la estela de condensación generada por una figura humana que se desplaza por el aire con los brazos extendidos. Las estelas de condensación son nubes alargadas producidas por los gases de escape de los motores de los aviones. Buvoli, nacido en Italia en 1963, ha sido becario Fulbright y ha recibido subvenciones y premios de la Fundación Guggenheim, el Consejo Estatal de las Artes de Nueva York, la Fundación Creative Capital, y la Fundación de Nueva York para las Artes.
