Michael Bise
Biography
Michael Bise was born in Flagstaff, Arizona and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1990.
He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas in
2001 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Houston in 2005.
His work has been exhibited at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; the Art
Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont; the Art Museum of South Texas,
Corpus Christi; Fort Worth Contemporary Arts at Texas Christian University;
McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas; Galveston Arts Center; Blue Star
Contemporary Art Museum, San Antonio; Gaddis Geeslin Gallery at Sam
Houston State University, Huntsville; The Gallery at the University of Texas at
Arlington; The University Galleries at Texas State University, San Marcos; the
Southwest School of Art, San Antonio; and the National Museum of Mexican Art,
Chicago, Illinois. His work is part of the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts,
Houston, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont, and the Houston
Airport System, City of Houston. Bise was a recipient of a Houston Arts Alliance
Individual Artist Grant (2014), an Artadia Finalist (2014 and 2012), and awarded
The Hunting Art Prize (2012). Bise is represented by Moody Gallery in Houston,
Texas and is an instructor at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts,
Houston, Texas. Bise’s work consists of graphite drawings that combine
autobiographical narrative with labor-intensive attention to detail, creating a
disorienting relationship between personal psychology and formal picture making
concerns.
