Boris B. Gordon (Russian American, 1882 - 1976) Biography from The Heritage Society: Little is known about this artist, Boris Bernhard Gordon. He was a portrait painter in Houston from at least the early to mid-20th century. He exhibited at the Cotton Carnival in 1910, and his work can be found at the Texas State Capitol and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Like many other Texas portraitists, Gordon captured history by painting important figures in the local area. The painting in the collection of The Heritage Society is a portrait of Phillip Battlestein. This painting was done in 1955, the year Phillip Battlestein died. The portrait is shown in a Houston Press article written the day after Battlestein's death, but no credit is given to Gordon as the artist.
