Houston, TX

A native Houstonian, Syd Moen graduated from the University of Houston earning both a B.A. in Art History and a Master of Architecture.
In the late 1990’s, while pursuing her lifelong interest in photography, she examined the emerging development of computerized applications utilizing “virtual reality.” This led Moen and a group of friends to form a multimedia company whose goal was to document Houston’s historic sites through virtual reality (VR) to make them accessible for those with disabilities. However, the focus changed when they landed a contract to integrate VR photography and special effects to create web-based simulations for the petrochemical industry. After that contract ended, the company disbanded, but the knowledge Moen gained during that time was priceless and led to her current body of work in 360° photography.
Moen has an extensive background in design and services to the architectural and historic preservation fields. She has participated in the Bayou City Art Festivals, both in downtown Houston and Memorial Park, and was the Featured Artist (downtown) in 2013. In 2015, she was selected to be Artist/Curator for Holocaust Museum Houston’s “Butterfly Project.” In 2017, she received an Individual Artist Grant from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance to design and manage the creation of a public art sculpture titled “The Bridge.” Moen exhibits widely and has collectors both nationally and internationally. She maintains a studio at Spring Street Studios in Houston, Texas.
